Forecast for 10 April, NASA DC-8, and report

last modified 2008-06-05 02:43
Changed return flight of the DC-8 on 9 April 2008

P-3 made it to Thule, despite strong cross-winds.

Bad weather has forced the DC-8 to deviate to an Airport further south (Iqualuit) than planned originally (Thule). This completely changes flight plans.

Re-shuffled flight track: no flight to Svalbard, instead a straight flight to the N-Pole. Flexpart predicts stacked plume of various aerosol conditions.

aged NA CO on the way, aged EU CO up to 3km, BB CO from Asian forest fires, recirculating, between 3-5km, Asian anthropogenic CO at higher altitudes (5-10km).

Pollution plumes, probably forest fires, were encountered near the pole. A low-level pass in the BL was done 45 mi from the pole. During a broken descend over Barrow, no O3 depletion was detected.

Rendevouz with the B-200 near Barrow for Calipso validation point.

P-3 on the return flight had planned on sampling the biomass burning plume E of Fairbanks at 21Z, some delays however occurred in Thule, which might have changed the flight schedule
