Status update on the NOAA P-3, 8 Apr 2008

So far we have had an incredible series of bad luck with the NOAA P-3. Still no science flight so far, we are waiting for a replacement windshield. Another delay this morning will set us back another day. Earliest flight day now expected to be this Friday (10 April).
Possible targets are biomass plume moving over Alaska at the moment, as well as aged air recirculating in the high pressure system near the pole.
Warm weather during the last couple of days has caused large-spread break-up of the sea ice just off Barrow, some cracks extending over 10 drg latitude towards the pole.
At Barrow, weather remains as the days before. Skies mostly overcast, temperatures below normal, light snowshowers. No complications expected for the future flights from that side.
