ARCTAS: Real Time Mission Monitoring
Real time tools for displaying aircraft location, satellite products and other resources during POLARCAT-ARCTAS
ARCTAS participants,
The Real Time Mission Monitor (RTMM) is providing real-time tracking of
the ARCTAS aircraft, along with current satellite imagery (GOES, MODIS,
polar composite), GEOS-5 and WRF model output, and satellite nadir
track and instrument field-of-view orbit predicts. The RTMM uses
Google Earth as its display engine. To run RTMM, you must first
download and install Google Earth. After Google Earth is installed
(one-time only), then point your browser to the Current Mission page on
the RTMM web site (http://rtmm.nsstc.nasa.gov/current_missions.html) and select the link "Start Real Time Mission Monitor for ARCTAS" <http://rtmm2.nsstc.nasa.gov/rtmm/index.php?missionID=ARCTAS>.
Caveat: upon closing (exiting) RTMM/Google Earth, you will be asked if
you want to save items in your My Places folder. Your response should
be NO. (See enclosed file 'GoogleEarthPrompt.bmp')
See the User's Guide link on the Current Missions page for helpful
setup hints and additional information. For those of you in Fairbanks
for the mission, please see Rich Blakeslee for details and help on
using RTMM.
As I write this, the P3 is on the first leg of its transit flight to
Yellowknife, NT. A P3 track overlaid on a GOES12 visible image is
enclosed below. (See enclosed file 'P3_TrackOverlay_20080331.bmp)
