ICEALOT: Current status and plans

Plan of the Day

4/8 15:00 UTC update

Steaming to 69.92N, 30.17E in the heart of the Varanger fjorden to sample emissions from Kola Peninsula. Will sit here until 4/9 03:30 UTC (which is approximately local sunrise). This plan could change if the wind shifts and we are no longer seeing the plume. At 4/9 03:30 UTC we will star making our way to the Calipso overpass on 4/10 at 10:58 UTC (70.03N, 17.99E).

Next Calipso overpass opportunities:
4/9 10:15 UTC
4/10 10:58 UTC

We have seen some SO2 (up to about 4.5 ppb), and NOx is the highest it's been since Long Island Sound, so I'd say we're picking up something - not nearly as dramatic as 2006, but that was pretty excessive. Eric seems to also be getting some pretty good ship emissions data as the background around here is so clean, and there are a fair number of ships heading into and out of Russia.
