Table (after Eckhardt et al., 2003) shows coefficients obtained from a multiple linear regression with carbon monoxide as dependent, and time and the NAO index as independent variables: r2 explained variance, a1 intercept (unit ppbv), a2 trend (ppbv/year), a3 slope with the NAO index (ppbv). The analysis was done for the years 1994-2001. Correlations are significant at the 1% level for Spitsbergen and Alert, and at the 0.1% level for Barrow. The major explanatory factor is the NAO index.
